Summer isn’t just a time to sit back, relax, and soak up the sun. It’s also the time to take action and help out the community, whether that’s local or abroad. When the family does this together, kids of all ages can learn what it feels like to make a difference, large or small. It can strengthen familial bonds and create lasting memories. If you’re looking for some kid-friendly ways to volunteer this summer, check out these cool projects!

Help the Homeless

Almost every city across the United States has a homeless population. One easy way to help them out is to get a pair of new, warm socks and stuff them with water bottles and granola bars. Give out a set to the men and women you see who could use a little help!

Soldier Packages

Get a head start on your holidays with the Red Cross and its Holiday Mail for Heroes program. Create and decorate holiday cards to send to soldiers deployed oversees. This helps our nation’s heroes feel appreciated and valued, especially during the holidays where they are missing their families.

Adopt a Charity

Whether you’re collecting old towels and toys for the local animal shelter or putting up a drink stand in your yard to support a local charity, it’s important to give back to specific communities.

Adopt a Family

Local shelters, churches, and even businesses have programs where you can adopt a family and help them out. That could be as simple as giving them gifts for the holidays or buying them clothes and food to getting them through tough times.
