6 Ways to Keep Your Kids Active This Summer
The end of the school year may have come and gone, but that doesn’t mean that your kids get to sit in front of the TV all summer long. It’s important to keep kids active and occupied both mentally and physically. Aside from keeping your kids active and engaged, being a part of their activities, whether in a small indirect way or completely involved, is a great way to help motivate them. Need some ideas?
Does your child love to help you in the kitchen? Take a cooking class together. Some classes are designed for kids as young as 10 years old, making it the perfect blend of mentally and physically engaging!
Volunteer or Part-Time Work
Local communities are always looking for volunteers, whether that’s helping out at a community center, church, or even a sports club. Those a little older may consider a part-time job to not only stay active, but earn some spending money.
As most kids need about 60 minutes of physical activity a day, signing them up for a community or recreational sports program is perfect. There are plenty of programs that start every summer, so see what your child is interested in and sign them up!
Keep your kids mentally engaged with a daily reading habit. Is their goal to watch their favorite TV show? Have them read one chapter a day to gain access to their shows and movies!
Most teachers will offer summer homework packets that kids can work on to keep their newly learned skills sharp and ready for the next school year. Set time aside each week to help them out to stay involved.
Swimming is the perfect way to not only help your kids cool off from the summer heat, but also stay active. Most community pools offer lessons for all ages as well as passes for specific days and times.
