Are you planning to travel on spring break? Whether you’re planning on traveling somewhere tropical or somewhere where you can get in a few more ski runs this season, we’ve got packing tips for your next trip!

Tip #1 Make a list.

We all know the feeling of packing for a trip, thinking you have everything and arriving at your final destination to find you’ve forgotten something. We highly recommend sitting down and creating a check list and checking off each item as you begin packing.

Tip #2 Pack to your itinerary.

Do some research before your trip on what there is to do in the area, what activities you are currently scheduled to do, if your hotel has a swimming pool or hot tub, what the weather will be like, and the cultural attitudes towards certain dress, then pack accordingly. This way you’ll know exactly what to pack!

Tip #3 Travel small.

Instead of packing full size toiletries, head to your local drugstore, Target or Walmart for travel sized versions of shampoo, conditioner, body wash and toothpaste. You can even cut back on waste by purchasing travel-sized containers that can easily refilled at home. By traveling small, your suitcase will be much lighter, and also leave plenty of room for souvenirs.

Tip #4 Pack layers.

Spring weather can be unpredictable. Even if you’re final destination is warm and tropical, it doesn’t hurt to pack clothing you can layer.

Tip #5 Pack efficiently.

Is anyone else thinking of applying the KonMari method to their packing techniques? Having a packing strategy is a great way to make sure you’re making efficient use of space. Everyone has their own preferred method. Packing cubes are a great way to compartmentalize your suitcase and ensure everything has its own place. You can also roll your clothes or pack socks and underwear into your shoes to save space.

Tip #6 Pack extra bags.

Packable bags like reusable grocery bags, Ziplocks and trash bags are great to use for just in case scenarios. They’re super light, and might come in handy on your trip.

Tip #7 Wear your heaviest clothes on the plane.

You can avoid added baggage fees for heavy ski jackets and boots, but even more importantly, the hassle of stuffing them into a suitcase by wearing them on the airplane. This may be a tip you already knew, but hey, now you know we recommend it too!

Happy travels!
