Traveling for the Holidays? Here’s How to Stay Healthy On the Road

It’s officially the holiday season!
Which means more people will be traveling by plane, train or automobile to spend time with friends and family. Traveling this time of year can be chaotic and stressful, but here are some tips to keep you healthy on the road:
Eat a healthy breakfast. Start your travel days off with a good breakfast. Some options that are good for your body and your teeth are: fresh fruits, eggs, yogurt, and calcium-fortified cereal. Avoid sugary cereals and baked goods.
Drink lots of water. Drinking plenty of water is always a good idea, but it is especially important when you’re traveling. Water dilutes sugar you consume and flushes out bacteria, plus staying hydrated helps keep your immune system and energy levels strong.
Dry your toothbrush. Wet toothbrushes can grow bacteria, so make sure yours is thoroughly dry before packing it up. At your destination, let it air dry after use. You can also make it easy to keep up good dental habits by bringing portable floss or mouthwash.
Wash your hands. This one is also a no-brainer, but be extra vigilant about washing away all the new bacteria you come in contact with while traveling to stay healthy.
Find ways to relax. Make sure to allow yourself plenty of free time when you travel. Find a quiet place to read, meditate, and make sure to catch up on your zzz’s anytime you can. Sleep deprivation can lead to overeating, affect your mood, and cause accidents.
With just a little effort, you can get to your destination safely, healthy and ready to celebrate the holidays!
