Why Smiling Is Your One-Stop Shop To Boosting Mood And Health
Why do vampires clean their teeth three times a day?
To prevent bat breath!
Okay, we know that joke was a little cheesy, but did we make you laugh? How about smile, or a slight smirk?
Studies have shown that even the slightest smile can play a significant role in reinforcing your emotions. In one study, people with frown-inhibiting botox injections were asked a series of anxiety producing questions and reported feeling happier and less anxious than the people who could frown. Forcing a smile tricks the brain into thinking it’s actually happy.
It also relieves stress and anxiety because when we smile, our brain releases endorphins, which act as natural painkillers. Heart rates are typically lower when smiling than not, too.
Whoever said “laughter is the best medicine,” forgot about smiling! Next time you’re in the mood for a little pick me up, just smile.
