Do I Need a Tooth Extraction?

Throughout your dental assessment, we’ll utilize X-rays to gauge the extent of damage or infection, aiding in the decision-making process about whether a tooth extraction is necessary. Situations involving wisdom teeth, damaged teeth, crowding in the gumline, tooth decay, or infections often warrant a tooth extraction. We always prioritize the preservation, restoration, and protection of your natural teeth whenever feasible. Unfortunately, factors like tooth decay or traumatic injuries can impact the possibility of restoring a tooth.

At Bright Now! Dental in Phoenix, we turn affordable tooth extractions into a reality. Rather than enduring the agony of a tooth infection, we simplify access to the care you deserve. We offer flexible financing and added discounts to alleviate any concerns related to your smile’s renewal.

Dr. Chen is just awesome, as are the rest of the staff. Let you know exactly what you’re dealing with and your plan of care. There is another location very close to my house but I didn’t feel as comfortable as I do at the Camelback office.🎉

The staff was warm and friendly, they took great care of me. The oral surgery went great. I was so relieved!!! I was out for 45 mins, i had 14 teeth to extract. It was like i took s nap and woke up and my teeth( my horrble nightmate of teeth) was gone! No bad effects from sedation. Dr. Chen was great!!! They knew what to do !! So for that reason and my great experience, iI would recommend them to all the scardy cats that are afraid of dentist!! Thank you Bright now!! I have a paiful ordeal over with!! You made it soooo bare able. Jane

My crown fell out during a Zoom call. Glad I wasn't presenting. I needed emergency service and my dentist was not able to take me, so I did a search and found Bright Now Dental. The customer service at this location is 💯. Everyone was so kind and gentle. That's exactly what I need as it helped to calm my nerves and anxiousness. If you want to be well taken care of by experience, skills, acumen and great customer service, then this is your new dentist office...and mine. Dr. McDonald and her assistant were both AWESOME! Post-Extraction DOs

Rest: Immediately after the extraction, it’s important to take it easy. Rest for at least 24 hours to allow your body to begin the healing process.

Bite on Gauze: Your dentist will provide you with sterile gauze pads. Bite gently on these pads over the extraction site to help control bleeding. Change them as needed, following your dentist’s instructions.

Apply Ice: To minimize swelling and discomfort, apply an ice pack wrapped in a cloth to your cheek for 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off during the first 24 hours.

Maintain Oral Hygiene: While you should avoid the extraction site when brushing and flossing, continue to clean your other teeth and gums gently. Use a soft-bristle toothbrush and rinse your mouth with warm saltwater (if advised by your dentist) to keep the area clean.

Eat a Soft Diet: Stick to a soft diet for a few days. Opt for foods like yogurt, applesauce, mashed potatoes, smoothies, and soups. Avoid hot, spicy, crunchy, or hard foods that could irritate the extraction site.

Follow-Up Appointments: Attend any follow-up appointments scheduled by your dentist to monitor your healing progress. They will remove any stitches if necessary and assess your recovery.

Be Patient with Healing: Remember that the full healing process may take several weeks. Be patient, and follow your dentist’s instructions diligently to ensure a successful and comfortable recovery.

Post-Extraction DON’Ts

No Smoking: Smoking can impede the healing process and increase the risk of complications. Avoid tobacco products for at least 72 hours after extraction, if not longer.

Avoid Straws: Sipping through straws creates suction in your mouth, which can dislodge the blood clot that forms in the extraction site. Skip the straws for the first few days.

Don’t Rinse Vigorously: Refrain from rinsing your mouth vigorously for the initial 24 hours. Gently rinse with warm saltwater if instructed by your dentist.

Don’t Touch the Site: Avoid touching or probing the extraction site with your fingers or tongue. Keep your hands and foreign objects away from the area to prevent infection.

Don’t Skip Medications: If your dentist has prescribed pain medication or antibiotics, take them as directed. Skipping doses can lead to increased discomfort or complications.

Skip Alcohol and Mouthwash: Avoid alcoholic beverages and mouthwash with high alcohol content, as they can delay healing and cause discomfort.

Resist the Urge to Spit Excessively: Excessive spitting can disrupt the blood clot formation, which is crucial for healing. Swallow saliva gently.

Don’t Ignore Complications: If you experience severe pain, prolonged bleeding, fever, or any signs of infection, do not ignore them. Contact your dentist promptly for guidance.

Stay Away from Hot Beverages: Hot drinks can increase blood flow to the extraction site and may lead to prolonged bleeding. Stick to cool or lukewarm beverages.

Avoid Chewing on the Extraction Side: Do not use the side of your mouth where the extraction occurred for chewing until your dentist gives the green light.
